Soda and Terrorism

I just took this from my P90X newsletter. This is awesome!

Soda outkills terrorists. A study out of the University of California, San Francisco, shows that soda has killed at least 6,000 Americans in the last decade.

From ABC News: "The new analysis, presented Friday at the American Heart Association's 50th Annual Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention, offers a picture of just how horrifying the damage done by excess consumption of sugary drinks can be.

"Using a computer model and data from the Framingham Heart Study, the Nurses Health Study and the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, researchers estimated that the escalating consumption between 1990 and 2000 of soda and sugar-sweetened beverages, which they abbreviated as 'SSBs,' led to 75,000 new cases of diabetes and 14,000 new cases of coronary heart disease.

"What's more, the burden of the diseases translated into a $300 million to $550 million increase in health care costs between 2000 and 2010."7

GMO's

I found out something about genetically modified produce.

A conventionally grown PLU would be 4446.

An organically grown PLU would be 94446.

And a genetically modified PLU would be 84446.

I knew the first two, but not the GMO prefix. Cool, but still yet freaky. By the way, this info was taken from Perfect Weight by Jordan Rubin.

Asparagus

The connection to processed foods and REAL food is becoming abundantly clear to me as time goes on. For lunch yesterday I ate 10-15 pieces of asparagus and I was full immediately and for hours. I ate three pieces of pizza tonight (with Ranch no less) and I was hungry two hours later and ate ice cream. Now, I do admit I didn't have to eat the ice cream. But I find it painfully ironic that 200 or 300 calories of asparagus kept me full all afternoon and 700 calories of pizza kept me full for a few hours. Scary.

New Blog

I I had to do it. I figured if I start blogging because I have no one to talk to. Plus if I type my thoughts into a blog I won't have to keep notes on paper or on my hard drive. For a part-time Vegan, I sure am lazy. ...hence probably why I'm not a full-time vegan. :)
